Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Surges to 4.5 Million Sales, Setting New Franchise Records

The world of Warhammer 40,000 continues to expand its influence, as evidenced by the remarkable sales achievements of its latest installment. With the release of Space Marine 2, the franchise has not only captured the attention of long-time fans but also attracted new players, showcasing its enduring popularity across gaming platforms.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has achieved an impressive milestone, with 4.5 million copies sold, according to the announcement from the publisher.

Created by Saber Interactive, this thrilling game is set within the dark and complex universe of Games Workshop. It shattered records upon its debut on September 9, becoming the most-played entry in the Warhammer 40,000 series on Steam, boasting significant peak player counts. Now, in just over a month since its release, Space Marine 2 has successfully reached a player base of 4.5 million.

Recently, the Chief Creative Officer at Saber noted how the phenomenal success of Space Marine 2 had transformed the company’s trajectory. While specific figures in terms of revenue and profits were not disclosed, he affirmed that this title is the fastest-selling project he has ever been involved with, surpassing well-known franchises like Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein, and Rage during his extensive 24-year tenure at id Software.

In discussions regarding budget, it was revealed that the financial outlay for Space Marine 2 was significantly less than that of Doom Eternal, the last project he oversaw before transitioning to Saber in 2019. Considering the current price points of $59.99 on Steam and $69.99 on consoles, it is reasonable to conclude that Space Marine 2 is already proving to be an immensely lucrative venture for all parties involved.

Exciting concepts and plans for a potential Space Marine 3 are already circulating, but for now, attention is focused on the confirmed Year 1 post-launch support for Space Marine 2. Among the anticipated additions are the Tyranid Hierophant Bio-Titan enemy, a new Neo-Volkite pistol, and a coveted Dark Angels chapter cosmetic pack. In addition, observant fans have identified hints of a forthcoming cosmetic pack for another Space Marine chapter and even a new, unannounced enemy type related to the Thousand Sons.

Saber has also rolled out a significant patch, version 3.0, which introduced an intriguing update to the game's conclusion, generating excitement among Warhammer 40,000 enthusiasts. The start of Season 2 is expected to unfold by the end of October, promising additional content and features for players to explore.
