Nostalgia in Bricks: Lego Super Mario World Set Brings Iconic SNES Characters to Life

For those of us who grew up in the 90s, there's something incredibly nostalgic about a new Lego Super Mario World set that's soon to make its debut. This particular set recreates the beloved plumber riding his dinosaur companion, Yoshi, just as they appeared in the side-scrolling game from 1990. It's a must-see for any SNES fans out there.

Following a leak that generated significant internet buzz, the Lego Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi set has been officially revealed. It faithfully recreates the characters with moving limbs and Yoshi’s iconic tongue that can extend, presumably to catch some of those digitized apples. These features are operated by a handle at the back, adding a unique interactive element to your collection. Not many top-tier Lego sets offer this kind of functionality.

The full details of the Lego Super Mario World set are now available, and it’s set to hit stores on October 1st. Pre-orders are open at the official Lego store. Interestingly, this release will coincide with the launch of new Lego Fortnite sets, including one particularly intriguing kit.

This Lego Super Mario World set is primarily targeted at adults, aiming to serve more as a decorative piece than a traditional playset. However, it does feature interactive elements similar to the Lego NES set. By turning the handle, you can animate Yoshi, making his legs and arms move as if he's running along the pixelated base of the model. His tongue can also extend on command, staying true to the character from the SNES game.

While Mario himself may not have any moving parts, his eyes suggest a mischievous thought, perhaps contemplating leaving Yoshi mid-jump. Who can forget those nail-biting moments in the game?

The size of this set is quite surprising. Comprising over 1,000 pieces and standing 15.5 inches (40 cm) high, it’s anything but subtle; it won’t easily blend into the background.
