Nintendo Introduces GameChat Party System with Innovative Joy-Con Control
- 07 Apr 2025

This article outlines new details regarding an additional control feature on Nintendo's upcoming handheld console, emphasizing its contribution to communication and social play.
Nintendo has recently revealed the function of a unique button on the right Joy-Con of their new console. This extra control, which sparked widespread discussion among fans eager to understand its potential, is now confirmed to open access to an innovative party system.
When pressed, the button launches a menu that connects users to the new party system known as GameChat. This system lets up to four players engage in conversations, share screen content, and even participate in live video calls while immersed in the latest games.
GameChat works through a built-in microphone in the console that detects the user’s voice and distinguishes it from surrounding ambient noise. Users can expect this advanced feature to function equally well in both portable mode and while the console is docked, successfully capturing voices across a spacious area.
The overall design of the GameChat menu is both minimalist and intuitive, offering only several key functions, which include:
- Disabling the microphone when needed
- Sharing gameplay sessions, even if friends are playing different titles
- Customizing the display balance between the person’s gameplay and that of their companions
- Activating video call options
For video calls, Nintendo plans to roll out an extra peripheral called the Switch 2 Camera at the console's debut. This accessory allows users to separate themselves from their backgrounds, similar to the effect achieved by a green screen.
It is worth noting that accessing the GameChat feature requires a Nintendo online service membership. However, built-in parental control options via the Nintendo mobile app will help ensure a safe environment for younger players.
